Picture Perfect Hair by Maiysha Johnson
(F9) A single strand of hair has three distinct parts: cuticle, cortex and medulla. The cuticle is the top layer; the cuticle resembles shingles on a roof. The cortex is the second layer second; the cortex determines hair color, elasticity, strength and flexibility. The third layer is the medulla, the center of the strand; the medulla is only found in thick, course hair strands.
(F10) Hair spray contains alcohol, and alcohol dries out hair, causing breakage.
(F11) The best shampoo for dry hair is shampoo that contains an acid-ph-balance and formulated for dry hair.
(F12) The entire hair shaft is dead. The hair cells (roots) inside the scalp are the only living part of the hair.
(F13) Greasing the scalp does nothing for the hair but coat it. The scalp secretes natural oil called "sebum" from the sebaceous glands.
(F14) Chemicals cause the hair to lose moisture. Using moisturizer helps to put back moisture in hair. African- American hair should be moisturized daily.
(F15) Signs of damaged hair include: lack of shine, split or frizzy, dry hair and excessive breakage. A good conditioner is all that is needed to correct these problems (frequently).
(F16) These five things can help you achieve fast hair growth: (1)Shampoo & Conditioner 1-2 times a week (make sure you pick the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type and texture, a good conditioner is important). (2) Protect your hair from daily heat (give your hair a break by wearing a wig, weave or braids). (3) Stop frequent chemical applications; like relaxers and colors. Take supplements for the hair, skin and nails. Afrigrowth 60 is what I use ( http://www.afrigrowth60.com/ ). (4) Limit your consumption of alcohol; alcohol is damaging to hair. (5) Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables in conjunction with hair supplements and drink water.
